When You Love

Rich Mullins
Psalm 92:1-3, Psalm 116:16, Daniel 4:34
Matthew 7:13-14, Matthew 11:28-30
First Corinthians 7:21-24, First Thessalonians 5:16-18

There are things you can pray in your prayers
That you can't sing in your songs
It's like the dreams that lovers share
When they're safely resting in the promise of a love that lasts
Though it leads them on to walk a steeper path
And so sometimes you pray and sometimes you sing
And when you love you thank the Lord for everything

There's a rest you can find in your work
That you can't get out of sleep
And there's a healing that may hurt
And there's a war that must be waged for peace
It don't come ready made
And if you wanna be free you must become a slave
And so sometimes you work and sometimes you rest
But when you love you know it all works out for the best

Oh, when you love (When you love)
Oh, when you love (When you love)
Oh, when you love (When you love)
Oh, when you love (When you love)
Oh, when you love

There are things you can sing in your songs
When you've learned them in your prayers
And there's a rest that makes you strong
For the work that you've been called to share
In with the sons of Light
And if the Lord should tarry long enough you just might
See that the times were good
Although the times were hard
And when you love you know you've got to thank the Lord

When you love (you gotta thank the Lord)
You gotta love the Lord
When you love
You gotta love the Lord
You gotta love the Lord
You gotta love the Lord

It Don't Do

Rich Mullins and Steve Cudworth
Exodus 32:1-6, First Kings 12:28-33
John 1:14, Romans 10:6-8

It don't do to preach the gospel
If you don't live the Christian life
It don't do
No it don't do to preach the gospel
If you don't live the Christian life
It don't do
It don't do to preach the gospel
If you don't live the Christian life
It don't do to dream about heaven
If you never look up and see the sky
It don't do

And it don't do to preach on Matthew
If you have not yet read Mark
It don't do
And it don't do to preach on Matthew
If you haven't yet read Mark
It don't do (It don't do)
And it don't do to preach on Matthew
If you have not yet read Mark
It don't do to talk about the judgment
If there is no love in your heart

Word became flesh and He dwelt among men
We have seen Him with our eyes
We have held Him in our hands
And before you say whatever you will
I think you better do what you can
Or it won't do (It don't do)

And it don't do to preach on Moses
If you bow down to the golden calf
It don't do
It don't do to preach on Moses
If you bow down to the golden calf
It don't do
And it don't do to preach on Moses
If you bow down to the golden calf
It don't do to talk about glory
If you never dare to laugh

Word became flesh and He dwelt among men
We have seen Him with our eyes
We have held Him in our hands
And before you say whatever you will
I think you better do the best that you can
Or it won't do

It don't do
It don't do
It don't do
It don't do
It don't do
It don't do
It don't do

Verge of a Miracle

Rich Mullins
First John 4:12

Clung to a ball
That was hung in the sky
Hurled into orbit
There You are
Whether you fall down
Or whether you fly
Seems you can never get too far
Someone's waiting to put wings
Upon your flightless heart

You're on the verge of a miracle
Standing there
Oh you're on the verge of a miracle
Just waiting to be believed in
Open your eyes and see
You're on the verge of a miracle

Here in your room
Where nobody can see
Voices are loud
But seldom clear
But beneath the confusion
That's running so deep
There is a promise you must hear
The love that seems so far away
Is standing very near

You're on the verge of a miracle
Standing there
Oh you're on the verge of a miracle
Just waiting to be believed in
Open your eyes and see

When you've played out
Your last chance
And your directions
Have all been lost
When the roads that you look down
Are all dead ends
Look up
You could see if you'd just look up

You're on the verge of a miracle
Standing there
Oh you're on the verge of a miracle
Just waiting to be believed in
Open your eyes and see
You're on the verge of a miracle

Pictures in the Sky

Rich Mullins
Job 37:11-16, Psalm 147:15-18
Psalm 148:3-5, Isaiah 40:21-26

Lord Jesus You are the One
Who made the heavens
And You'll take me there someday
But 'til that time they'll hang around
To say that You love me
And down here on earth
It's hard to keep in mind
When the days are hazy
The sun still shines
But if my head's in the clouds
It suits me just fine
'Cause they're what's above me

And there the world unfolds
Right before me
With whispers of hope
And shouts of glory

I like to see the pictures
Way up in the sky
It looks like moving pictures
When the clouds go by
I like to see the pictures
Way up in the sky
It looks like moving pictures
When the clouds go by (by, by, by)

Lord Jesus You are the One
Who sends the clouds
That roll along
On the crest of the wind
I look up I see in them Your power
See the vapor trail
Reddened in the setting sun
It's like a heavenly blessing
On a trail of crumbs
See the light beam burning bright
Shining like a rung
On Jacob's ladder

And there the world unfolds
Right before me
With whispers of hope
And shouts of glory

I like to see the pictures
Way up in the sky
It looks like moving pictures
When the clouds go by
I like to see the pictures
Way up in the sky
It looks like moving pictures
When the clouds go by (by, by, by)
When the clouds go by

And there the world unfolds
Right before me
With whispers of hope
And shouts of glory

I like to see the pictures
Way up in the sky
It looks like moving pictures
When the clouds go by
I like to see the pictures
Way up in the sky
It looks like moving pictures
When the clouds go

I like to see the pictures
Way up in the sky
It looks like moving pictures
When the clouds go by
I like to see the pictures
Way up in the sky
It looks like moving pictures
When the clouds go . . . by (by, by, by)

(By, by, by)
I see another world
(By, by, by)
I see another world
(By, by, by)
I see another world

Be With You

Rich Mullins and Justin Peters
Philippians 1:9-11, Second Thessalonians 1:3
Revelation 6:12-14

Everybody each and all
We're gonna die eventually
It's no more or less our faults
Than it is our destiny
So now Lord I come to you
Asking only for Your grace
You know what I've put myself through
All those empty dreams I chased

And when my body lies in the ruins
Of the lies that nearly ruined me
Will You pick up the pieces
That were pure and true
And breathe Your life into them
And set them free?

And when You start this world over
Again from scratch
Will You make me anew
Out of the stuff that lasts?
Stuff that's purer than gold is
And clearer than glass could ever be
Can I be with You?
Can I be with You?

And everybody all and each
From the day that we are born
We have to learn to walk beneath
Those mercies by which we're drawn
And now we wrestle in the dark
With these angels that we can't see
We will move on although with scars
Oh Lord, move inside of me

And when my body lies in the ruins
Of the lies that nearly runied me
Will You pick up the pieces
That were pure and true
And breathe Your life into them
And set them free?

And when You blast this cosmos
To kingdom come
When those jagged-edged mountains
I love are gone
When the sky is crossed with the tears
Of a thousand falling suns
As they crash into the sea
Can I be with you?
Can I be with you?

Screen Door

Rich Mullins
Matthew 7:15-20, Hebrews 6:9-10, James 2:14-26

It's about as useless as
A screen door on a submarine
Faith without works baby
It just ain't happenin'
One is your left hand
One is your right
It'll take two strong arms
To hold on tight
Some folks cut off their nose
Just to spite their face
I think you need some works to show
For your alleged faith

Well there's a difference you know
Between having faith
And playing make believe
One will make you grow
The other one just make you sleep
Talk about it (yeah)
But I really think you oughtta
Take a leap off of the ship
Before you claim to walk on water
Faith without works
Is like a song you can't sing (sing)
It's about as useless as
A screen door on a submarine

What Trouble Are Giants?

Rich Mullins
Joshua 1:9, First Samuel 17:31-51

I'm gonna tell you a story
That you've probably heard
And at the risk of being redundant
I'm gonna tell you something
That may not thrill you
But it could not hurt
Well it comes out of the sacred
Writing of the Israelites
It's the story of David
And how he slew Goliath

Well now the king of his country
He didn't trust in him much
And so to David's alarm
He tried to fit him in his armor
But the thing was so heavy
David couldn't stand up
So he left it by the river
Where he gathered five smooth stones
I guess it's safe to say he figured
He wasn't going out alone
He's not alone

What trouble are giants
What's wrong with being small
The bigger they come
You know the harder they fall
When you're fighting for Zion
And you're on the Lord's side
Well I think you're gonna find
They ain't no trouble at all (Trouble at all)
No trouble at all
No trouble at all
No trouble

Now there must have been some laughter
Among the Philistines
At the sight of this scrawny little shepherd
Coming out to meet the record-breaking mammoth of a man
Who was a killing machine
But it didn't shake David
'Cause he was smart enough to know
It's more the size of who you put your faith in
Than the size of your foe

What trouble are giants
What's wrong with being small
The bigger they come
You know the harder they fall
When you're fighting for Zion
And you're on the Lord's side
I think you're gonna find
It ain't no trouble at all

What trouble are giants
What's wrong with being small
The bigger they come
You know the harder they fall
When you're fighting for Zion
And you're on the Lord's side
I think you're gonna find
They ain't no trouble at all

What trouble are giants
What's wrong with being small
The bigger they come
You know the harder they fall
When you're fighting for Zion
And you're on the Lord's side
I think you're gonna find
They ain't no trouble at all

What trouble are giants
What's wrong with being small
The bigger they come
You know the harder they fall
When you're fighting for Zion
And you're on the Lord's side
I think you're gonna find
They ain't no trouble at all

Trouble at all
No trouble at all
No trouble
(Hey) No trouble
No, No trouble
(Hey)
(Hey)

Steal at any Price

Rich Mullins and Wayne Kirkpatrick
John 8:12, First Thessalonians 5:1-2, Revelation 16:15

He sees a frozen shadow
Cold in the neon flash
He sees the ghost of a chance in her eyes
He longs to take her away
To a place where love can last
Without all these memories
Of all the emptier loves in her life
'Cause He knows how bad it can get
And He sees her lose
Though she pays her dues
She still winds up in debt
And the night cracks
Like a whip in her heart
She looks into the light
He takes her out of the darkness

He's a thief in the night
Where souls are for sale but nobody buys
Please believe me when I
When I tell you His love
Is a steal at any price

He sees a broken bottle
There in a young boy's hand
It's full of the anger
That's cut him so deep
He longs to take him in
And show He understands
And give him something that's more than
A promise that no one will keep
'Cause He knows how bad it can hurt
When you try and you try
'Til you don't know why
'Cause you still find that nothing works
And his heart cracks
Like a whip in the night
He takes him out of the darkness
And into the light

And He's a thief in the night
Where souls are for sale but nobody buys
Please believe me when I
When I tell you His love
Is a steal at any price

He's a thief in the night
Where souls are for sale but nobody buys
Please believe me when I
When I tell you His love
Is a steal at any price

He's a thief in the night
Where souls are for sale but nobody buys
Please believe me when I
When I tell you His love
Is a steal at any price

He's a thief in the night

Could Be a Celebration

Rich Mullins, Gary Jones, Renee Garcia,
Reed Arvin, and Lang Bliss

Psalm 147:7

Standin' on the border
Hangin' on the edge
Your life lies out before you
On the road that runs ahead
Sometimes what looks to be the worst
Turns out to be the best
But whatever comes down your way
You'll be taking it step by step

Could be a celebration
Or it could be a hurt
That makes your soul awaken
In the echoes of what you heard
'Cause when your faith get shaken
Sometimes your heart gets stirred

Rolling with the punches
You're down but you're not out
Somehow I've got a hunch
That you ain't throwin' in the towel
You're not yet the winner
But you're still in the fight
And it's best you just remember
Who it is that's on your side

Could be a celebration
Or it could be a hurt
That makes your soul awaken
In the echoes of what you heard
'Cause when your faith gets shaken
Sometimes your heart gets stirred

When it's time for quitting
And when the day is done
Ain't it nice to have some rhythm
Ain't it nice to have some fun
Drinking in that sweetness
That's pulsing in the air
Catch a scent of that fragrance
Rising up on your prayer

Could be a celebration
Or it could be a hurt
That makes your soul awaken
In the echoes of what you heard
'Cause when your faith gets shaken
Sometimes your heart gets stirred

Could be a celebration
Or it could be a hurt
That makes your soul awaken
In the echoes of what you heard
'Cause when your faith gets shaken
Sometimes your heart gets stirred

Be a celebration
It could be a celebration
And it could be a celebration

Love that Knows No Bounds

Rich Mullins, Wayne Kirkpatrick, and Cathy Snyder
Deuteronomy 30:19-20
Deep calls to deep
And all that we need
Has been lost in what we've found
And all we shall be
Is growing by leaps
In a love that knows no bounds

And we will rise on spirit wings
When we wake from earthen dreams

Time ticks away
Night after day
'Til the clock comes unwound
With all we shall be
Still growing by leaps
In a love that knows no bounds

And we will wake from earthen dreams
To rise on spirit wings

(I can see pictures in the sky)
