Dear Family in Christ,
The memorial for Rich in Wichita has been scheduled. The details are as follows...
Doors will open at 6pm, and Henry Levitt Arena seats approximately 10,000 people. Plan to arrive early as capacity crowds are expected.
If I have led anyone to believe that the arena will not hold all of those attending the Wichita Memorial, I apologize.
We expect the capacity of 10,000 to be adequate for the attendance. Thank You.
This note from Kevin Brocksieck
Just wanted to let you know that Canticle WILL take place as planned. We are also adding a thursday night performance when the Rich concert would have been. We are all overcome with grief at the loss of an artist and friend, and going on with Canticle is all we can do to deal with that grief. Thanks for your updates and we will send more information as it becomes available. Thanks, Kevin Brocksieck
I've reentered this info on the dates page again (subject to change).
10/09 Wichita, KS thru Friends University, Alexander Auditorium 10/11 Presented and directed by Tapestry Performing Arts Tickets are still available at Better Book Room in Wichita 800-678-6119 and Friends University's Campus Ministries Office. For more information, please contact Tapestry Performing Arts. It is safe to assume that Mitch will not be recovered quite yet to appear as St Frank, and that Tapestry has covered that part from a fine group of actors available in the Wichita area.
Not sure if you've already received this, but a memorial service for Rich is planned at Kentwood Christian Church, 5841 Kalamazoo Avenue, SE, Kentwood MI 49508 Telephone (616) 455-1510, Fax (616) 455-9068. Service is planned for Wednesday, September 24, 1997 at 7:00 PM EST. Rich served as music minister here in 1982-83, but--more importantly--was our friend and inspiration. He meant a great deal to us, especially to those who were in our youth group then--now in their early to late twenties. Who can forget Rich teaching our young people to play the plastic cups to the rhythm of "Screen Door in a Submarine"? Or creating songs at the piano? God grant you joy in singing in the Heavenly choir, and teaching them a whole new "Praise to the Lord"! Thanks to God for sharing Rich with us. Sincerely, Phil Tietz Home phone (616) 455-4703
A friend and classmate of Rich's niece (who both shall remain anonymous) is really struggling with Rich's death, and asked me to pass along this prayer request. She is now with the family, and as said many times, but worth repeating, please pray for Rich's entire family as they have a private funeral service this week.
I would also like to address those who are looking for info on this private ceremony. Please respect Rich's family and allow them to grieve his loss in private in this very difficult time. 'Nuff said?!
Please indicate "Rich Mullins Memorial Fund" on checks. Credit cards are accepted by phone. Funds will be applied to the Native American Outreach program. This would be Rich's desire. It is also Mitch's desire (this comes from Mitch's family on his behalf until he recovers).
Finally, I must apologize for not posting the messages of condolence and rememberance yet. As I have already shared, this task has become quite overwhleming. I still am receiving messages, and will post as soon as I can find time and space.
