Date: Sat, 15 Feb 1997 16:06 From: Steward, Gary Subject: RM Bellevue Iowa concert 2-14-97 Danl, I just got back from a great experience. I had never been to a Rich Mullins' concert before, though I have been listening to his music with intense interest for about the last three years. One thing I would strongly recommend for all concert goers: Take a legal pad and a good pen. The depth of what is presented deserves a call to note-taking. The concert in Bellevue opened as many of the other reviews have described. Mitch McVicker was there as well. I won't bother you with many of the details, but I was especially glad to hear him do "Jacob and Two Women" and "78 Eatonwood Green." I was touched by Rich's music, for sure, but I was amazed at Mitch's talent. His mandolin playing on "While the Nations Rage" was incredible. Also, the songs he did on stage alone were great. I am particularly interested in getting the lyrics to the song that he does with Rich as an invitation to come to New Mexico. The chorus goes something like, "I'm alive and I'm living in a place where the earth's crust is shifting. And the stars in the sky are thowing a party for New Mexico." DOES ANYBODY KNOW THE WORDS TO THE ENTIRE SONG? It would be great to get these. Also to the song Mitch sings called something like "Only His Love Will." It would be great if anyone is going to here them soon to jot these down. I would really appreciate it. I had a chance to talk to both Rich and Mitch a little afterwards. I gave Rich a blank sheet of paper and asked to put as much wisdom on the page as he could. He wrote, "Gary... be God's ...Rich Mullins" in a sort of monograph (?). Rich could also make it as a Graphic Designer if the bottom ever falls out of his music career. I also asked a lady who was with them when the _Canticle of the Plains_ CD would be released. She said sometime in the summer. =( I was suprised at the concert that no _Canticle_ songs were played. I'm looking forward to other Bellevue concert reviews... Take care, Danl. It would be great to get lyrics to those songs! Gary Steward Brookings, SD (Oh, by the way, we lost an alternator belt midway into the foggy, three-and- a-half-hour drive home and had to stop in Vermillion, SD. It was 4:30 AM when we finally found that we could catch a few Zs in the basement of a college dorm. I didn't make it back until 1:00 this afternoon. It was well worth it, though).
I should take this opportunity to remind everyone that the lyrics to all of Rich's released material are on Calling Out Your Name. Also it is my desire to remain within copyright laws on this list. Therefore I will not be posting lyrics to unreleased songs (specifically "Canticle" tunes) by request of Rich's management. Thanks in advance, for supporting me on this.
