Hey Danl - Made an attempt to attend the Celebrate Freedom concert
after I heard they changed the start time of the Tribute to 7pm. When I
arrived at 6pm in a downpour (complete with lightning), I spent the
next half hour in my car. Then I headed into the vendor area, trying to
hear when they started up the performances again. The field was a total
mud lolley, so I did not want to head to the stage if they canceled that
part of the show (like so many other acts were cancelled). After two
more rain showers, I headed to my car to head home. Got in my car at 8pm
and it took me 3 1/5 hours to get out of the parking lot (also one of
many muddy parking "fields"). Needless to say, I was not a happy
camper. What a test of patience! I did run into a friend of Linda &
Scott's at church who hung out at right in front of the stage for over
6 hours. He said Rick Elias did make it on stage, but only got to sing
2 songs before they had to run off stage due to another rain shower.
Said Rick was pretty hoarse (I'm guessing from the concert in Chicago).
Jon Rivers said a few things. Less than 10 minutes of a planned 45
minute segment. I was there, but did not hear that he was going on
stage. :-[ Also per this friend, Amy Grant's band was stuck in the bus
somewhere, unable to make it to the stage (probably from all the cars
trying to make a mass exit!!!!). Amy did make the stage at 9pm (after
the last rain shower). Said she was a real trooper - she sang 5
(unsure of the count) songs with a borrowed "out of tune" guitar,
backed up by someone else with a borrowed guitar who had never played
with her before. (I bet she was in the white limo coming in behind me
when I first arrived at 6 pm). Well, that's the scoop. Pretty much a
bust. Hope you had a great weekend in the Big D with your family.
- Karen
