Michael Aukofer was the only Kid Brother there. I was disappointed that Mitch and the Kid Brothers didn't play but the time for the concert was limited. I was also disappointed that This Train didn't play, they are always so entertaining! But again, no time, although Jordan Richter was there running the sound. | I can't remember what Rick Elias was laughing at in this picture but the whole evening was full of laughter. This may have been when Jimmy made a comment about having to sing over an espresso machine, but mostly they laughed at each other and themselves for forgetting words to the songs. | Here's all the Ragamuffins, except Michael who is hidden behind Mark. I had a hard time getting pictures of Mark because he was so close to me. I'm surprised he didn't go blind in his right eye since everytime I took a picture the flash was in his direction. I had to move to the aisle to get the whole group. |
Aaron Smith setting up "If I Stand," as he reads a passage from Ephesians 6.
|
Aaron singing "If I Stand". My personal opinion
is that Aaron is one of the best drummers in the world! He seems to be such
a gentle, nice man.
|
Rick singing "Man of No Reputation". What an incredible song! I've heard Rick sing this twice live, each time it is a mezmerising experience! What an incredible voice! Or is it the song. Perhaps both. | Rick singing "Man of No Reputation."

| This is Jimmy A, artist/musician extrodinare! I was talking to him about the artwork he did for "Exodus", he said it was some of his favorite that he ever done. I work part time (my sanity job) at a Christian Bookstore (Family Christian Bookstore #166), I told Jimmy I wanted to get one of the two Exodus posters off the wall for him to sign (but management wouldn't let me because they didn't have anything to replace it with), he said that "they" wouldn't even let him have one! By the way, I went back to the store a couple days later and they had taken them down and thrown them away. I almost quit my job but then I'd loose my sanity! :-) | Danl, I'm glad you know the keyboard player's name, Carl Herrgesell, because they didn't introduce him. He is incredible! The drums that Michael is playing in this picture are in-stock items at Jammin Java. They have the tags still on them.

Mark Robertson and the crowd at Jammin Java are singing "Awesome God". Talk about corporate worship!
|
Here's a closeup of Michael's hammered dulcimer. Everyone kind of went "Ahhhhh" when he sat down and started playing. Several people came up and took pictures. If you look closely you can see a broken string hanging down the side. Broken string and all, it still sound great!!

And now ... |
After getting everyone to sign my "Jesus Record" poster (from the bookstore) it was time to leave. My friends Julie and Wayne Johnson were waiting for me at the door. Rick walked by me, patted me on the shoulder, thanked me for coming and walked toward the door. I stopped him with "ohhh, I loved you......in "That Thing You Do". I think I kinda scared him, like some obsessed fan or something, until I completed the sentence! :> We all walked out together. I told him that after the concert in Lancaster we went home and watched "That Thing..." just to look for him. As we were watching someone would spot him and yell "Hey, there's.." Rick finished the sentence perfectly "...that guy!" Actually, he became the "Sweater Guy" because he wore a sweater in Lancaster. We talked for a few minutes about the weather, the problems they'd had with the sound system, and odds and ends. Rick and Wayne started talking about guitar stuff (Wayne is an incredible guitarist himself!!) Rick said at one point he was trying to figure out what "that noise" was until he looked down at his guitar and realized it was him. As we were talking Mark came out, then a little later Jimmy A come out. This was too much of an opportunity to pass up. I asked if I could take a picture. Sure! Then I asked if I could take one with me in it. Sure!! Julie offered to take the picture for me but since most people get nervous because my camera has to be focused I said Na, that's okay. Jimmy said "She's got a timer on it" So, I set the camera down and stood in front of some of my favorite musicians. A once in an lifetime opputunity! Someone (Jimmy or Jordan) mention that the camera seemed a little turned. Flash, too late! Oh yeah, Jordan Richter (This Train) was standing beside Jimmy in this. Didn't even get a sleeve. Sorry, Jordan (but thanks for signing my Wichita vacation album!!) I didn't want to take up anymore of their time. I just prayed real hard for a miracle! What I got was a good laugh! Hey, I'm not a computer geek for nothing! I can fix this, we have the technology! God gave me an incredible gift (a moment of time with the Rags), then humbled me! Actually, laughter is a gift also, so thanks again! Regardless of photographic flubs...it was a great evening spent paying tribute to a man whose songs, articles, and interviews have changed my life as a Christian (especially when I took time to read the books he talked about, I'd never heard of Brennen Manning until watching the Pursuit of a Legacy Video). But most importantly, changed my view of God from a God who was far off and loved me from a distance, to GOD who desperately wanted not only to be my Lord and Savior but also my friend. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET TO HEAVEN!
Update from Suzy - 05 Jul 99
Date: Thu, 10 Jun 1999 07:41:15 -0400 From: Suzy Dixon Subject: Ain't this Cool! Danl, I thought you'd get a kick out of this... You probably remember setting up this page of pictures I sent you along with a review the the Rags concert at Jammin Java on Kent Island, Oct 3, 1998. Right? (above) Well, they came back to Jammin Java on April 30, 1999 (as you well know, since I heard about it first from YOU!) and I went again! I took along my photo album to show the results of the pictures I took the first time on the balcony. You remember, I cut their heads off in the picture of me with them. By the way, Rick said that was the one he prefered out of all of'em. Anyway, check out the pictures I've attached. I fixed the pictures on the computer [above] but I like the way Jimmy A fixed them better [below]! BTW, the brown stain on the headless Rags is a coffee stain, I guess that turns the original into a scratch and sniff since Jammin Java is a coffee house. :-) See ya and God Bless, Suzy Dixon![]()
